Chris Gayle Academy London join cricket stars from around the world

While Essex County Cricket Ground prepared for an IPL style festival ahead of a Benefit match involving England and Essex star, Ravi Bopara and his All Stars, the Chris Gayle Foundation Academy were ready to play East London Cricket Club. In the build up to a night that would welcome stars such as Chris Gayle, Shahid Afridi, Kumar Sangakkara, Mahela Jayawardene, and England captain Alastair Cook, the Chris Gayle Academy set the atmosphere of the day by participating in a cricket leadership training, playing a competitive match and coaching young school children from the local area.

The day began with the academy developing the values of the Chris Gayle Academy while representing Chris Gayle’s big six:

  1. Making good choices
  2. Understanding consequences and actions
  3. Working hard
  4. Setting goals
  5. Looking after yourself
  6. Respecting others

The academy shared their experiences of the ‘big six’ and went on to develop their own dressing room ‘code’ to aim to be as successful as they can be as a group. With this in mind they went on to warm up for a 10 over a side match against East London Cricket Club which they went on to win. There were great performances all round with the team demonstrating what hard work and determination can achieve when you have only been together as group for a few months.

The academy team were able to then watch Chris Gayle play in a celebratory All Stars game for Ravi Bopara’s Benefit match. The unique atmosphere around the ground provided the academy players with a unique experience, one that will inspire them to continue to reach their potential through cricket.
