CGF team triumph over MCC Young Cricketers
The Chris Gayle Foundation Academy team started the 2015 cricket season with an impressive win over the “MCC Young Cricketers”, played in Hertfordshire at Shenley village Cricket Club.
Everything about the day was beautiful, the sun was out, the ground was lovely and the CGFA boys were buzzing with confidence.
Fielding first the CGFA team didn’t get off to the best of starts with the MCCYC team scoring quickly. However, with a combination of some fantastic catches and noticeably tight ground fielding the CGFA team found they had 2 early wickets in the bag. MCCYC continued to score well but important wickets at crucial stages meant that CGFA were never losing control of the MCCYC innings as they reached a modest total of 200.
CGFA in reply reached 100-2 and after that lost wickets at regular intervals but at no stage did they ever look like they lost control of the game as they reached their target of 201 for the loss of just 5 wickets. CGFA Captain, Jamal Francis played another fine innings but was unlucky to find first slip, special recognition must go to Shavawn Cunningham and Mo Alikhail who both stood firm and shared the responsibility of getting their team home.
It was an excellent result for a young team who have only been together for about 4 months (and with a few members of the team playing cricket overseas during the winter), their ability to come together and perform as a unit and produce such a noticeable result is a credit to each and every one of them. The boys have definitely identified the importance of teamwork and team spirit when chasing success.
